Dr Neil Beumelburg

Dr Neil Beumelburg – Medical Director

I was born in Christchurch and attended Christchurch Boys' High School in the early 1980's. After one year at Canterbury University I gained entry to Otago Medical School in Dunedin, graduating in 1991. After many great years travelling & working overseas I returned to Christchurch and worked at Christchurch Hospital in various roles before deciding to specialise in General Practice in 1999. I am now a Fellow of the Royal NZ College of GPs & am proud to be involved in specialist training for GP Registrars & teaching of Medical Students from our local Christchurch School of Medicine, some of which is carried out at Moorhouse Medical Centre.

As Medical Director my main interest is continuing to build & improve our Medical Centre & the service we are able to provide to our enrolled population & visitors. Outside of work I have too many interests to list & not enough time to enjoy them all.....but I always give it a go!

I am an English trained GP, gaining MRCGP in 2001. I have been at Moorhouse Medical Centre since 2002, working part-time on Monday and Wednesdays as I have 3 young daughters. I really enjoy seeing families and building a professional relationship with patients. My areas of expertise are paediatrics, womens health, chronic disease management and nutrition. Out of work I enjoy pilates, zumba, a good book and experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen!

Upon return to the UK, I became a Member of the Royal College of General Practitioners in 2006 and qualified as a GP Trainer. My special interests include Paediatrics, Family Planning and GP Education.

I'm a British-trained General Practitioner,

I gained my primary MBBCh from Cardiff University in 2005. Following specialist training I qualified as a Member of the Royal college of General Practitioners (MRCGP) in 2010 and then worked as a GP locum around South Wales for 18 months prior to coming to New Zealand with my wife in early 2012. We have enjoyed setting up home in Christchurch, deciding to settle here after travelling back in 2004 as students.

Outside of work, I have many interests - being a Welsh lad rugby is up on the list, I also enjoy golf and taking advantage of the beautiful surroundings of Canterbury with its walks and easy access to all year round outdoor activities.

I'm a New Zealand-trained General Practitioner, originally from Otago. I spent my first three years as a doctor working in South Canterbury. I've since worked as a GP around the country, but I prefer to work close to the Southern Alps so when I'm not working, I can enjoy skiing and spending time in the mountains.
