I really enjoyed working for four months in 2008 at Moorhouse Medical Centre. The staff there are exceptionally friendly and welcoming, and I found everyone to be extremely approachable and supportive. I found it interesting to see a mix of enrolled and 'walk in' patients, including those with minor injuries, as well as more commonplace general practice problems. I would definately recommend Moorhouse Medical Centre as a workplace to other GP's coming from overseas. My rota gave me plenty of opportunities to explore the south island of New Zealand, and Christchurch was a fantastic place to be based, with easily accessible mountains and coastline for outdoor activities, as well as all the advantages of living in a city.

I worked as a part-time GP at Moorhouse Medical Centre for 12 months during 2006, and found it a really good experience for my year out.  The staff were probably the most friendly and helpful I'd ever encountered, and the rota was flexible enough to allow me the time I needed to explore New Zealand.  The work was a good mix of general practice and minor injuries, so I was able to learn about NZ medicine without feeling out of my depth.  Christchurch itself is the perfect base from which to travel around the South Island, and I would really recommend this job to UK doctors.

I spent 4 months working as a GP at Moorhouse Medical Centre in Autumn 2008. 

I would thoroughly recommend it to any GP who is thinking about getting experience working in general practice in New Zealand. 

The staff were very supportive and welcoming.  Despite working full time, the rota was flexible enough to allow me plenty of spare time to visit the rest of the beautiful South Island and enjoy the fantastic New Zealand lifestyle.
