Dr Neil Beumelburg (Medical Director)

I was born in Christchurch in 1968 & attended Christchurch Boys' High School in the early 1980's. After one year at Canterbury University I gained entry to Otago Medical School in Dunedin, graduating in 1991.

After many great years travelling & working overseas I returned to Christchurch and worked at Christchurch Hospitals in various roles before deciding to specialise in General Practice in 1999.

I am now a Fellow of the Royal NZ College of GP's & am proud to be involved in specialist training for GP Registrar's & teaching of Medical Students from our local Christchurch School of Medicine, some of which is carried out at MMC.

As Medical Director my main interest is continuing to build & improve our Medical Centre & the service we are able to provide to our enrolled population & visitors to MMC.Outside of work I have too many interests to list & not enough time to enjoy them all.....but I always give it a go!

I’m proud to be part of the Moorhouse Medical Centre team.  My special interests lie in minor surgical procedures, the Accident & Medical side of our practice, and paediatrics.  I’m currently undertaking higher studies in both General Practice, and Community Emergency Medicine.

Having travelled to New Zealand regularly (from my home country of Australia) for skiing and climbing each year, I jumped at the chance to move to Christchurch as part of my medical training.   I now consider New Zealand home, and still wake up each morning thinking “why would I want to live anywhere else?”

I love tramping, and skiing, and get up to the mountains at every opportunity.  Except on days when there is a rugby match on.  And before you ask, there is no contest at test matches - I’ve always supported the All Blacks.
